Safety education and awareness
With TAPP, Kululeko's community safety programme
Research into safety in Kayamandi, including concerns about high levels of crime and gun violence, led Kululeko to bring TAPP, its community safety programme, here first. TAPP has put the resources in place: drones for aerial awareness, cameras, gunshot detection, wearable panic devices, and an operations centre that turns what is seen into a response.
Resources only help if people know about them and know how to use them. Sakhisizwe's part is education and awareness, taught plainly, face to face, and more than once:
- what TAPP is, and why there are drones and cameras in the area;
- what the drone does, and what it does not do;
- how the panic device works, and when to use it;
- if you feel unsafe, what to do, who responds and what happens next.
How we work
- We listen first, door to door and through dialogue circles.
- The community has a say in how the technology is used here.
- Anyone can talk to us, no appointment and no name required.
